Abstract
The divine injunction “Be fruitful and multiply” (Genesis, 1:28) takes on the character of a command regarding human fertility. Upon analysis, legal provisions have prohibited human sterilisation, even when voluntary. However, newly acquired bodily autonomy now makes it possible to assert that the word of God no longer dictates the law in this area. Nevertheless, elements of positive law remain that – albeit more indirectly – encourage human procreation.
